Georgie

The Life of a Brixton Boy

Georgie The Life of a Brixton Boy Charlie Breaker

A boy is born in Nazi blitzed South London the year after the soldiers returned from the war. There was the biggest baby boom ever but with little or no work, crime became the occupation of most men and their sons followed suit.  At 5 years old his family were the only non Jamaicans in his Brixton street. Problems within his growing family forces the 10 year old Georgie into care. Sexual, physical and mental abuse were daily happenings around him in the Children’s Homes, Approved Schools and the Borstals.

On the run from an Approved School in Suffolk, he stops in many towns on the way in a quest to find his friend in Newcastle. He had many adventures on the way, always managing to duck the Law.  They finally captured him robbing a Newcastle chemist and he is incarcerated in H.M.P. Wormwood Shrubs. His violent response to the cruel guards got him a spell in the chokey,  being fed only bread and water for 28 days. He was transported to H.M.Borstal, Wellingborough but within a week he was in trouble again and sent to the notorious Reading Borstal.  Which  was soon to be shut down, after an article in the The Times exposed the violent regime being administered by the officers. The boys were moved on to other Borstals, for Georgie it was Portland Borstal where he spent 22 eventful months.

On release he decides to go straight but it didn’t last long, his wish for a better life took him into the company of big time local criminals and fast money. With his Boss being arrested he found himself running again, this time to Penzance.  After attempting to make a career in the Fishing industry, he lapsed back into crime once again. He matured into a fast living criminal and became a product of his environment. His life was a whirlwind of crime, violence and sex, fuelled by drugs, booze and rock n roll.
